IT Infrastructure Solution

New York Data Center

Cervalis’ New York Data Center resides in Dutchess County and is approximately 65 miles from New York City. Renovated in 2001 to support mission-critical applications, the facility is an N+1 infrastructure with no single points of failure. With a total of 90,000 square feet, the facility includes 40,000 square feet of active data center and 20,000 square feet of Business Continuity Recovery Seats.

Network Environment
Cervalis’ fault-tolerant network environment provides divergent routes and multiple connections in networking cable, via multi-homed Synchronous Optical Network Technology (“SONET”) rings. This setup establishes N+1 redundancy for all network devices.

Our self-healing wide area network and fully redundant, high-speed local area network infrastructure (Fast Ethernet/Gigabit Ethernet) provide our clients with highly reliable, secure network solutions that have virtually limitless scalability. As a carrier-neutral provider, Cervalis is currently interconnected and peering with multiple national international Tier 1 and Tier 2 carriers. We also provide end-to-end Ethernet connectivity between this data center and metro New York City.

Physical Security
Cervalis’ integrated security approach ensures that our clients’ equipment and data benefit from multiple levels of protection at all times. Dedicated security personnel monitor controlled access at the building perimeter and within the data center. Proximity card readers and video surveillance systems monitor and control access within the facility. Additional features of Cervalis’ physical security include:
• 52 video surveillance cameras
• Motion sensors
• Biometric identification readers for Data Center access
• “External buffer” corridor in the Data Center
• Proximity badges matched to an individual fingerprint
• Bonded security staff on duty 24x365

Network Security
Cervalis employs stringent security and privacy policies based on auditing standards, industry best practices and Cybertrust recommendations. Cervalis is annually certified by Cybertrust for its security measures. Cisco Managed Security Services recognized Cervalis as one of the most trusted leaders in data and network security.

Cervalis denies any unnecessary protocols. Business rules on TCP and/pr UDP ports are strictly enforced, allowing limited access required to performed necessary business functions. Remote access for management purposes is only allowed for authorized individuals through 3DES encrypted VPN sessions.

Electric Power
Our Dutchess County Data Center is designed with full N+1 and 2N redundancy. At any time, each component is connected with multiple power and networking connections. The center’s power design is based on multiple and fully divergent power grids and substations, 2N Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), N+1 generator backup and N+1 generator feeds to the building. The facility was designed to support high density power configuration.

Cervalis has a highly available electrical infrastructure. Our system is built on a tiered electric system that includes:
• 2 in-house electrical substations
• 2 separate power grids
• 3 Kohler 2MW diesel generators powered by a Detroit Diesel 4000 HP engine
• 3,000 gallons of fuel per generator
• 100 gallon per hour burn
• 10-500 KVA PowerWare 9315 UPS systems with Cyberex status switch
• 14 Kohler transfer switches
• Kohler parallel switch gear built for 3 generators
• 18-PDI power distribution units model PPB4150G641

Cooling Systems
The data center cooling system is a closed loop, glycol-based system that includes:
• 4-750 ton HVAC cooling towers supported by 5-600KW chiller pumps
• 38 air handlers
• Cold water (approximately 43 degrees Fahrenheit) provided to each unit, circulated through a heat exchange unit that moves cold air under the data center floor

Floor Space
The data center is equipped with 2’x2’ floor tile raised 18” above the sub-floor. Other features include:
• Electrical outlets 14 inches off the raised ground under the raised floor
• Network connection cables located in overhead cable trays
• Distributed weight limited rated at 1,200 pounds per square foot (with capability to increase using additional corner support stations)

Work Area Recovery Space
Cervalis provides Work Area Recovery space as part of its Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery solution. The Work Area Recovery space supports personnel who are required to continue business operations from a remote location in the event of an outage that causes the primary location to be inaccessible. Work Area Recovery space consists of Shared and Dedicated Seats.
